Varun Kaushik: Developing a Distinct Path in Indian Film Production

Varun Kaushik is an Indian filmmaker, writer and film producer whose professional journey has developed across television, advertising and film production. Based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Kaushik has worked in several areas of visual media, including television commercials, digital films, brand films, photography and other forms of digital content.

Originally from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Kaushik later moved to Mumbai to pursue opportunities in the entertainment and media industry. His early professional experience came through television, where he worked on reality shows associated with established television networks. This period introduced him to the practical and collaborative nature of television production.

After gaining experience in television, Kaushik moved into commercial advertising and ad-film production. The transition allowed him to work on visual projects created for brands and commercial audiences. His work has included different production formats, giving him experience with the requirements of branded communication and visual storytelling.

In 2019, Kaushik established Varun Kaushik Films, a Mumbai-based production company. The company operates across several areas of content production, including television commercials, digital films, brand films, photography, digital content and production services.

Through Varun Kaushik Films, Kaushik has been associated with commercial productions involving brands such as Samsung, MG Hector, Godrej Interio, Mahindra, Men of Platinum, Dalda and Luminous Solar Panels. These projects represent the commercial-production side of his filmmaking career.

His work in advertising has also provided a pathway toward longer-form filmmaking. While commercial projects often require focused storytelling within defined formats, feature filmmaking involves developing a narrative across a much longer duration. Kaushik’s career is now moving into this area with his upcoming Hindi feature film.

His feature-film debut is MIYAAD, scheduled for 2027. For the project, Kaushik is credited as writer, director and producer. The film represents his expansion from commercial and digital production into Hindi feature cinema.

The three credited responsibilities on MIYAAD place Kaushik in multiple stages of the filmmaking process. As writer, he is connected to the development of the film’s narrative; as director, to its creative execution; and as producer, to its overall production.

MIYAAD will add a feature film to a professional portfolio that already includes television, advertising and digital production. The project therefore forms another stage in Kaushik’s development as a filmmaker working across multiple formats.

Today, Varun Kaushik continues to be associated with Mumbai’s commercial and film-production environment through his company and independent filmmaking work. His career reflects a progression from television reality production to advertising, followed by the establishment of his own production company and his move toward feature cinema.
